Imphal, November 19 2009:
Visibly upset over the existing condition of NH-39, the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has threatened to call a 24 hours NH-39 bandh from midnight of November 26 till midnight of November 27 .
This was stated by SDSA president, A Pfokrehrii Khrasi, after inspecting the condition of NH-39 between Senapati and Maram today.
The inspection team included representatives of five tribal student organisations affiliated to the SDSA.
A Pfokrehrii said that the condition of NH-39 became a serious issue for the people since 2007. After a series of appeals and agitations, an MoU was signed with the Government on November 25, 2007, according to which all the amount sanctioned for NH-39 till then, would be utilised within 2008 .
The Government also assured that maintenance work of the National Highway would be handed over to BRTF once the sanctioned amounts were utilised completely.
But the Government failed to keep its commitment resulting in another round of agitation in August this year.
The agitation was suspended at the assurance of Home Secretary GK Pillai to release all pending bills of NH-39, recalled A Pfokrehrii.

Observing that the condition of the highway is still pathetic, the SDSA leader threatened to call a highway bandh on November 27 in case the Government fails to repair/develop the highway at the earliest.
Taking serious note of the inability to implement the plan to open an SBI branch at Tadubi due to lack of security arrangements, he appealed to the Government to make the necessary arrangements.
The SDSA also appealed for opening one fire sub-station each at Tadubi and Maram.
It also decried the unavailability of PDS items in Senapati district to the allotted quantities fully.
A Pfokrehrii further lamented that the lives of the three kids killed in a fire mishap at Maram on November 15 could have been saved had there been fire service facility at Maram.
