Imphal, November 19 2009:
Foreign tourists can now enter Manipur by road on the NH-39 and NH-53 as government revised the guidelines for grant of Protected Area Permit to the foreigners visiting Manipur.
A notification regarding the relaxation was issued today by the state home department.
The areas which they can visit also revised adding for places by the notification issued by additional secretary (home) M Yaikul Meetei.
Earlier, foreign tourists were allowed to enter the state by air from Calcutta to Imphal.
But as per the revised guidelines Union ministry of home affairs, in addition to this, foreign tourists can now enter by road through Dimapur-Kohima-Imphal section of the NH-39 and Silcher-Jiribam-Imphal section of NH-53 .
The areas which can visit by the foreigners also revised.
They can travel, Imphal- Bishnupur- Phubala- Sendra-Keibul Lamjao- Imphal, Imphal-Moirang Lake-Keibul Lamjao-Churachandpur-Khuga-Imphal, Imphal-Litan-Ukhrul-Siroy-Sangsak-Imphal, Imphal-Thoubal-Waithou Lake -Khongjom- Kakching- Thongjao- Waikhong- Sugnu- Imphal, Imphal- Khonghampat- Kanglatombi- Kangpokpi- Senapati- Karong- Mao Gate-Imphal and Imphal- Noneh- Khongsang- Nungba- Jiribam - Imphal.
Before this, foreign tourists were allowed to visit only Loktak Lake, Imphal, Moirang INA Memorial, Keibul Lamjao Deer Sanctuary, Waithou Lake and Khongjom War Memorial.
