In two separate incidents, security personnel eliminated two suspected underground activists today.
In the first encounter which took place at Wangphu Lok area in Chandel district, troops of 29 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) shot dead a suspected active cadre of the KCP.
According to a statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S), following a special tip off on the presence of UG cadres in the general area of Wangphu Lok under Tengnoupal Police Station, troops of 29 Assam Rifles launched search operations in the area.
At around 4 am, the troops came under heavy small arms firing from the area of Jhum cultivation nearby.
In the ensuing firefight, one UG cadre was eliminated.
From the personal diary, the individual was revealed as one Lamjing alias Naresh, who is an active cadre of KCP, the PRO informed, adding that one 9 mm pistol with magazine, four live rounds of ammunition, three hand grenades, which were subsequently destroyed in situ, the personal diary and one radio set were recovered from the possession of the slain UG cadre.
In the second incident, a combined team of Imphal East Police Commandos and personnel of 23 AR shot dead another suspected underground activist during an encounter in the hilly terrain of Tiger Camp under Lamlai Police Station, Imphal East today morning.
According to police report, the combined force launched a search operation in and around Tiger camp since early morning today following specific information on the presence of UG cadres.
At around 6.30 am, some suspected UG activists armed with sophisticated weapons who were there in the hilly terrain of Tiger Camp opened fire towards the combined force.
The combined force also retaliated the firing and shot down one of the UG suspects while the rest managed to escape.
One 56-56 Assault Rifles and a magazine loaded with 12 live rounds of ammunition, one Chinese hand grenade and a shell (Lethode of MM 40) were recovered from near the body of the slain UG suspect, who has been identified as Ngairangbam Amit alias John (19) s/o late Birbal of Heirangoithong but staying at Sagolband Meino Leirak.
The body has been picked up and kept at the mortuary of RIMS.
