Moreh, November 19 2009:
Students of various schools in the border town have demanded proper medical care facilities.
Submitting a memorandum jointly to the Chief Minister today evening, the students pointed out that there is no proper health facilities in the border town.
Even though there is one primary health centre and one referral hospital namely, Moreh Hospital, they are merely existing in namesake with very limited services and facilities.
Out of the total population of 30,000 in the border town, 15,000 are children.
Unfortunately, there is no specialist of general medicine, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, paediatrics, etc.
So it is our earnest request to the Chief Minister to send the required specialists at the earliest possible, the memorandum said.
The memorandum which was through ADC Moreh further pointed out that inspite of its strategic location, even simple and basic medical equipments for minor operation and testing are not available in Moreh Hospital.
In such a situation, one has to travel all the way to Imphal, which is 110 kms away from the border town for medical treatment even for delivery cases and there have been reports of death of mothers and children on the way to Imphal.
So it is our humble request to the Chief Minister to provide necessary infrastructure and equipments at Moreh Hospital.
Taking serious note over the problem of HIV/AIDS in the border town, the students have also called upon the Chief Minister for setting up atleast one ART sub-centre at Moreh.
