Governor exhorts writers to propagate message of peace and harmony

Manipuri writer and poet, Thangjam Ibopishak was conferred the Manipur State Award for Literature, 2009 today by the Government of Manipur.
The Award consists of Rs 1 lakh, a memento and a shawl.
The Award was presented by the Governor of Manipur, Gurbachan Jagat during a solemn function held this afternoon at the Kangla hall here.
Manipur State Award for Literature has been organized with a view to boosting the morale of the Manipuri writers, said Governor of Manipur, Gurbachan Jagat said.

Speaking at the function, Governor Gurbachan Jagat emphasized the role of the writers in uplifting the social and economic condition of the state.
He also appealed to the writers of the state to present their ideas in such a way that their writings propagate the message of peace and harmony to the masses of the state.
Such effort would enable the state to transform into an ideal state, added the Governor.
Appreciating the Manipuri writers for their contribution towards Manipuri literature, Education Minister, L Jayenta Kumar informed that more of such schemes would be introduced for the creative people of the state.
He said that suggestions to the Department of Education (School) from the public are welcome in this regard.
Government's support to the Manipuri writers is also important, added the Minister.
Meanwhile, Padmashree, RK Jhaljit, while maintaining the importance of Manipuri language, said that Manipuri language has been included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Manipuri language has also been found among the 169 languages in the United States (US) language department, he added.
He then said that people must learn all the Indian languages so that Manipuri language is recognized across the world.
