Yardstick to control use of antibiotics mooted

Medical practitioners and social activists have expressed their desire of framing a yardstick to control the use of antibiotics in Manipur health care and also voiced to adopt a state policy to monitor and control application of anti-biotics to the patients in order to combat drug resistance in the region.
"The time has come to avoid the habit of medication without condulting doctor",Dr Aribam Devdutta ,a super specialist in gastro-intestinal surgery said.
"This is not advisable" .
"Besides the frequent use of antibiotics may create drug resistance not to the individual but to his generations as well",says this young Associate Professor of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences(RIMS),Imphal while addressing a World Health Da observation here on Thursday.
The developed western countries had been controlling such unwanted medical practice in the region.
Chairperson of Manipur State Social Welfare Advisory Board RK Nayansana and Urologist Dr N Jitendra of Chambers hospital in Imphal also shared a similar sentiment during the observation which was held under the aegis of Vision Foundation Manipur and Nahakpam Foods and Beverages at Manipur Press club premises .
Doctors and researchers of the RIMS also observed the World Health day under the theme Combat drug resistance(No action today,no cure tomorrow) at its Lamphelpat premises while Red Cross Society Manipur Branch also observed the day by organising a day long interaction session at its MG Avenue complex in Imphal.
Meanwhile Manipur based armed group Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) in an email statement issued in connection with the World Health Day observation,has appealed to all the people of the region to lead a healthy life and become responsible citizens of the society.
Stating that only the society where all its citizens are healthy, can move ahead in the path of development, Secretary publicity T Leisemba of the outfit lamented that the present Manipuri society, however, has been lagging behind in every sphere.It may be noted that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has started observing April 7 every year since 1949 as the World Health Day under different themes.
