Imphal, April 01 2011:
The JAC against Christian Persecution at Chingmeirong Rongmei (Kabui) Village, Imphal has submitted a memorandum to the Governor to intervene and contribute his mite in ensuring peace and tranquillity prevail in the area.
Calling upon the Governor for his intervention in maintaining freedom of faith and peaceful co-existence of all, the JAC also recounted violent events that took place in the village in 2008 wherein a Church was dismantled and certain Christian families picked out, ex-communicated and even banished from the said locality inspite of the fact that these families are valid settlers.
Further highlighting that atrocities against Christians had been taking place periodically at various places of the State, the JAC representation also drew the Governor's attention that law enforcing agents had been lenient in initiating against the perpetrators.
Among others the JAC urged the Governor to prevail upon the Government to take up effective action against unconstitutional rules and regulations of Chingmeirong Kabui village and other villages/leikais (localities) that constantly harass the minority Christians and provide appropriate security measures during Sunday morning prayer services and protect lives and properties of the Christians.
It also desired that the case with regard to the 2008 incident and which is pending at a Court be settled at the earliest possible time in order to help maintain law and order in the village.
The JAC also alleged that the State Government had been indifferent to report and recommendations by religious organisations with regard to the Chingmeirong Kabui village incident.
