Members of Khwairamband Keithel Street Vendors Welfare Union who were coming to lodge a complaint against dismantling of their shops located on the footpath on the northern side of BT Road were stopped by the police from meeting the Chief Minister this evening.
At around 4.30 pm, hundreds street vendors were coming towards the Chief Minister's bungalow carrying placards and banners inscribed with various slogans like 'Protect the rights of the street vendors', 'Jobs to the unemployed ', 'Give us our rights to livelihood', etc.
when the police stopped them on the way and herded them till the Nupi Lan memorial Complex.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh reportedly returned to Imphal from Delhi this afternoon.
Later taking to mediapersons, agitating street vendors said they have been facing untold miseries after their shops were dismantled by the police in the night of September 4.They also demanded to know why only some vendors have been targeted and decried such discriminatory attitude.
Till late into the evening agitating streets vendors adamantly remained at the Nupi lan Complex insisting to meet the Chief Minister with the vigilant police personnel keeping a close watch on the movement of the agitators.
