Imphal, Sep 06:
With an eye on the general election of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, which is round the corner, Janata Dal (United), Manipur Unit has revamped its party structure and is readied to chalk out strategies to contest in the polls.
The party has also reconstituted its executive body with appointment of ex-MLA Sehpu Haokip as its new president.
Announcing this during a press conference, JD (U) national general secretary in-charge of North East Arun Srivastava said though no explicit strategy or plan have been formulated to contest in the ensuring election to the Manipur Legislative Assembly, the party would mainly focus on regional based agenda in its manifestos for the North East .
Since Samata Party, which has now merged with JD (U), has been struggling for scrapping the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, the party would continue its efforts on the same line, he said, adding that there would be no let up on the part of JD (U) in resolving the problems besetting the State.
Responding to a query, Srivastava said other than the Congress party, his party is opened to go together in the polls with other political parties and even in formation of the Government.
But there may be a slight difference in NDA structure of forming Government in the State, he added.
Newly elected State unit party president Sehpu Haokip, who also addressed the conference, disclosed that he would be convening a meeting very soon to strengthen party structure in terms of enhancing the task of conducting membership drive.
Former State unit party president N Ibobi Singh has now been appointed as an executive member in the National party.
