Three members of a gang allegedly involved in snatching mobile phone handsets and belongings from unsuspecting victims to sustain their drug habits have been rounded up by volunteers of AMADA.
Informing the successful breakthrough in busting the anti-social elements, Drive Committee secretary of AMADA K Meghachandra said numerous information had been received regarding the gangsters, under the influence of intoxicants, robbing several individuals at gun-point.
based on such information AMADA volunteers were deployed at strategic locations consequently leading to three persons being apprehended from a Thabal Chongba venue in Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai on April 2, Meghachandra said.
Identifying the trio as Tourangbam Manaobi Singh of Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai, Phurailatpam Sandeep Sharma (19) of irom Pukhri Mapal and Wangkhem Jemson alias Ibungo (20) of Sagolband Nepra Menjor Leikai, he maintained that Manaobi was apprehended on an earlier occasion on charges of consuming Spasmo Proxyvon (SP) tablets.
On April 2 evening information was received that some youths were thrashing up passers-by, without any provocation, and snatching their mobile phones, cash and wrist watches near the Thabal Chongba ground following which a team of AMADA rushed to the spot, said Meghachandra.
On reaching the scene, locals handed over one Sagolsem Jiteshore alias Kudol of Sagolband Nepra Menjor Leikai whose further interrogation by AMADA volunteers resulted in the disclosure of the trio's identity and their anti-social activities, Meghachandra informed.
Moreover, another person identified as Thongam Bung alias Bung Bung of Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai and currently serving in the 4th IRB was named by the four as the gang leader whose area of nefarious operation covered Imphal and nearby locations.
Charging one Meisnam Jim (21) also from Kwakeithel Thounaojam as the fifth member of the gang, the AMADA functionary asked both Bung and Jim to surrender within April 7.Among others the gang members are said to be involved in snatching mobile phone handset from two Activa scooter-borne persons on March 8 in Lilong Chajing area, extorting Rs 2500 from an Assistant Engineer about a month back with the assurance to scrap his son's name from KYKL's list of SP tablet abusers and other disturbing acts, he added and asked the gang members to hand over all the items and cash they have robbed.
