A suspected underground activist was gunned down by a team of 32 Assam Rifles at around 4.30 am today at Arapti Litan makhong under Irilbung police station.
The AR team reportedly recovered a 9 mm pistol with five rounds from the deceased who is said to be around 30 years of age, wheatish complexioned, attired in a camouflage T-shirt and green-coloured pants.
The victim whose ears are not pierced suffered several bullet wounds on the chest and forearm areas, and the body is being kept at RIMS morgue for necessary procedures.
According to a statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S) an encounter ensued at Arapti at around 12.30 am wherein an unidentified PREPAK cadre was slain.
One 9 mm pistol (Belgium-made), a magazine with four live and misfired rounds, along with 12 extortion notes addressed to various organisations/associations of Imphal West were listed as recovered items from the deceased.
The body has been handed over to Irilbung police station.
In another incident unidentified persons shot dead a youth at Shamurou area while a woman was found hanging under a Sekmai police station location today.
According to sources, the Samurou incident took place at around 12.30 pm wherein the gunmen shot dead a man near a wooden bridge in Samurou Makha Leikai which is located about four kilometres north east of Wangoi police station.
The deceased likely to be in the 30s is informed to be fair in complexion, clad in a black-coloured T-shirt with smoke grey pants, sprots long nail on the left small finger with a stone-crusted silver ring in the same hand besides three copper amulets on the neck.
The victim suffered atleast five bullet wounds around the facial and thigh areas, said the source while informing that locals suspect the gunmen to have brought the man to the spot from some other places.
Police have retrieved the body and deposited the same at RIMS morgue.
In the other incident a woman likely to be around 45 years and resembling a Nepali was found hanging to death.
The slightly decomposed body was recovered from an isolated place located east of Sekmai police station.
The, yet to be identified, body has been brought to RIMS morgue by a team of Sekmai police station.
