Imphal, February 26 2009:
The Umang Lai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) has strongly warned the state government to review its decision to keep the Maibas, Maibis and pena
players taking main roles in the Umang Lai Harouba under the control of the Govindaji Temple Board.
If the decision taken by the state
Cabinet to keep the maiba, maibis and pena players under the control of the Govindaji Temple Board is not review at the earliest, UKAL will
launch agitations with the support of the like minded people, said convener of the body M Maniton today speaking to the media.
He said that
it is a very unfortunate thing on the part of the state government keeping the Sanamahi religion under the control of the Govindaji Temple
Board by tabling the third amendment bill to the ensuing Assembly session beginning from March 17.The bill will seek to reform the Govindaji
Temple Board to pave the way.
In the article 2 and 6 of the agreement dossier signed between the then King Budhachandra and Ministry of Home
Affairs of the Government of India which marked the merger of Manipur in the Indian Union, it is clearly mention that the all the indigenous
and traditional ways of practice of worship and customaries will be under the control of the king, he observed.
Maniton further observed that
the Sanamahi religion has in any way link with the Govindaji Temple Board.
The way of worship and faith are entirely different.
The move of
the state government bring nothing but bloodshed among the people asking how the maiba, maibis and pena players who have nothing to do with
the Govindaji Temple be keep under their control.
Chief Minister, Ibobi will become second Shanti Goshai as his government decision will be
similar to that of burning down of the puyas of the Meetei, he lamented.
He also said that to discuss on the matter, a public meeting has
been called on March 1 at Kangla Hall, Imphal urging the people to participate in the debates.
