Imphal, June 21 2009:
Homeless villagers of Chingjao at Pumlen Pat, whose homes had been burned by combined security forces yesterday, have sought help of the government, civil society organisations and Manipur Human Rights Commission to visit the village and see for themsleves the destructions wrought by the security forces.
Leaders of All Tokpa Ching Meira Paibee Welfare Association and All Tokpa Ching Women's Development Committee told reporters at Tokpa Ching community hall today that about 20 clans have been living in the Chingjao village since last about 40 years.
The government has established Chingjao Primary School to give education to the children of the village.
However, the security forces conduct combing operation too frequently on the suspicion that underground insurgents take shelter in the village.
Therefore, the villagers do not stay in the village at night time, they said.
They asserted that though the security forces conduct combing operations too frequently, they never arrest any insurgent from there.
The insurgents pass by the village since it happens to be on their way, but they never make their camp in the village, they said.
