The All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) will observed the "International Day Against Drug and Illicit Trafficking" on June 26 with its theme "Self Protection, Self Responsibility, Self Realisation Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" with a mass rally on the day.
The proposed rally which will kick off at 9.30 am from THAU ground, Thangmeiband and will cover some areas in Imphal west and east districts, AMADA stated.
In a leaflet published by the body in connection with the observation of the day, AMADA reiterated the resolution passed at the International Conference Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held at Vienna in 1987 which among other resolved to observe June 26 as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNOCD) also with the aim to make a society fully aware of its responsibility in eradicating the problem of drug abuse and illicit trafficking is observing the day this year with the theme "Do Drugs Control Your Life? Your Life, Your Community, No Place for Drugs".
AMADA will meaningfully organize a rally and public meeting with the theme "Self Protection, Self Responsibility, Self Realisation Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking", it stated.
AMADA will observed the day (June 26) this year for the fourth time in row along with rally carrying message to stop drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
It will flag off from THAU ground at Thangmeiband and will pass through Khoyathong, PCTC Oil pump, North AOC, Hapta Minuthong, Tillipati, Lamlong Keithel, dingku road, Chingmeirong Keithel, Lilashing Khongnangkhong.

"From the last years of the 20th Century till today, the youths who are the future pillars of our society are being drowned in the sea of drugs like Heroin-No.4, liquor, opium and SP capsule giving a severe blow to our society like an epidemic." "Many who took these drugs have died untimely, many live suffering the pains of HIV/AIDS, many women are fighting the battle of life embracing HIV/AIDS which their husbands presented to them as a gift of disease," the leaflet stated.
Drugs addicts, not only giving obstacles in the lives of many youths in marching the society towards development, they have murdered innocent little children in cruel and merciless manner just for their small ear-rings.
Social organizations, NGOs and meira paibis have been fighting against this menace for many years with the objective to the save society for destruction by the drug abuse and illicit trafficking and build an able and strong generation for future.
Taking into account the damages caused by drugs in the society which is very vast and considering the need for a separate organization to fight against drugs, AMADA was founded on December 20, 2005, AMADA put down in the lengthy leaflet.
Many efforts had been made by the government agencies and revolutionary outfits fighting for independence to prevent drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Revolutionary outfits even carry out shooting at the leg to drug abuse persons and traffickers.
Many NGOs and Meira paibis have also joined the effort in curing addiction.
Stating that the time has come to try its best to carry out drive to stop drug abuse and illicit trafficking successfully and in order to make people fully aware of the strong, storm forces coming from different directions, AMADA has started observing the day since 2006 .
