Residents of Oinam and Maibam areas in Bishnupur district today expressed disappointed over the delay in the completion of a water treatment plan at Tingkai Khunou which was started construction work in 2004 .
Dissatisfied residents who held a public meeting to discuss on the water shortage problem in the locality under the aegis of the United Voluntary Organisation (UVO), Oinam has visited the site where the water treatment located today.
According to the members of the UVO and residents, the foundation stone for the construction of the water treatment plant at Tinkai Khunou was laid in 2004 during when K Govindas was the PHED minister along with another one at Ningthoukhong.
The plant at Ningthoukhong at already completed and benefitted the people of the surrounding area but the same at Tingkai Khunou remaining without launching even though 95 percent of the construction works completed.
As state by the UVO, the treatment plant is targeting to supply safe drinking water at Oinam, Maibam and its surrounding areas.
In the meantime, a public meeting held at Oinam Hindu LP School ground today has passed three resolutions with regard to the water problem facing by the people of the area and press the government to translate into action.
One of the resolutions related with the formation of an adhoc committee to press the government to look into the water shortage problem facing by the people.
The committee will prepare a memorandum to submit to the government tomorrow.
It also resolved to launch agitation if the government fails to translate into action to the demand of the people for solving the water shortage of the area.
