India's scientific pursuits to meet the challenges of a modern nation depends on the young talents , felt Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
The prime minister stressed this during his inaugural address of the 96th Indian Science Congress held at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Shillong today.
While terming science education as a 'fundamental requirement' of the growing nation, Singh repeatedly referred to the youths as harbingers of a new nation that will make the country keep up with the newly industrialized economies of Asia and the developed western nations.
The prime minister stated, "The best science is done by the young people and our institutions must be receptive to the needs of the young people." Asking the institutions to promote younger talents and allow the youths to lead, the prime minister said, "Seniority and age may be relevant in bureaucratic systems, but scientific institutions must be led by intellectual leaders irrespective of age".
Stating, "We need a new generation of role models and our universities must do more to foster research environment and to strengthen institutional leadership in universities and research institutions", Dr Singh in his exhortation on the researchers and researchers to inspire the new generations said, "The demand side stimulus should come from the industry and the government can ease the supply side constraints on teaching and research".
