THE DEMOCRATIC Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), a students body founded with an objective of bringing quality education in the state completed seven year today.
The body observed the day with a grand function at Kangla hall.
Manipur University Vice Chancellor of the Manipur, professor C Amuba graced the function which was presided by president in-charge of DESAM, C Santosh and attended by AMGOCTA president H Rajendra, FACTA president P Langamba, AMGHSLW vice president M Debendro, AMRPSWA advisor N Tomba and CBSE Monitoring Cell chairman Ch Nabakumar as guest of honours.
Addressing the function as chief guest, C Amuba expressed concern over the non-commitment among the teachers and students of present day in protecting the ethics of being student and teacher and said that the ethics among students as well as teachers are deteriorating more and more in the state.
The quality level of education is till Standard-X is still high but at the college in is diminishing, he observed.
He said to maintain and bring quality education in the state, to protect and maintain ethics by the students and teachers is a much.
It will not be possible to bring quality education without ethics.
He also while stating that a huge fund is going to invest in the human resource sector during the 11th finance commission period, he said "We must try our best to avail maximum benefits from it for the upliftment of education sector in the state".
In his key note address, assistant general secretary of the student body, SM Mahesh said the present situation in Manipur is a very concern one that everything is not well in the state.
The state is facing the difficulties of losing of its identity, unemployment problems, drugs abuse problems, ethnic clashes, corruption.
The same situation in the politic too, he added.
The structure of the society is also degrading.
The morals of the students, teachers in particular and of the people in general are degrading day by day.
People forget to live with dignity, he said adding that in the economy also Manipur is like a parasite which depend on others.
The degradation in all fields are particularly witnessing among the students, he observed.
Giving his presidential address to the gathering, president in-charge, Santosh expressed the need for building a common platform of the people in north east which have common futures and ethnicity to face the challenging identity problems.
He also called immediately building of a common platform of the students of the north east region having common interest stating that it will be late if delay further from today.
Other dignitaries attending the function talked on bringing quality education in the state.
In connection with the observation of the foundation day, a blood donation camp was also held in which around 200 volunteers of DESAM including women volunteers donated blood.
The "Chingjao Maichou Khongnangthaba Award 2008" conferred by the students body to the seven selected teachers of the state were also distributed on the occasion.
