TWO MORE suspected militants have been gunned down by the security forces in different places today to take the killed suspect to five in 2009, the year that commenced Thursday.
One of the suspects was killed by a combined force of Imphal east police commandos, troops of 32 AR and 155 BSF near Baruni foothill at Nongpok Sanjenbam under Lamlai police station this early morning at around 5.30 am while the other one was killed by another combined force of Thoubal police commandos and 21 para regiment at Yairipok Yambem at around 11 am, according to police reports.
A 9mm pistol loaded with some live ammunitions, one hand grenade along with two demand letter of the KCP (MC) outfit signed by one Lamyanba were recovered from the slain suspect at Baruni foothill while an AK-56 rifles with magazine loaded with seven live rounds, 11 empty cases and one spell out lathod shell were recovered from the spot where the slain suspect at Yairpok Yambem.
Even though, the identity of the slain suspect at Baruni foothill was not officially established, source said that he may be one Yengkhom Surjit alias Thembung (28) son of Iboton of Chanam Sandrok Mayai Leikai while that of Yairpok Yambem may be one Kadamba hailing from Uchiwa under Mayang Imphal police station of PLA/RPF.
In the slain at Baruni foothill is Surjit then, he was a former PLA cadre retired some eight year back and settling with his wife and two children.
The two dead bodies have been deposited at RIMS morgue for official identifications, police said.
Meanwhile, the identity of the suspect killed by a combined force of Bishnupur police commandos, troops of 7 AR and 193 BSF was established yesterday at Ikhong Ungapat under Kumbi police station today as one Chanam Kokngang alias Krishnasingh alias Killersingh (14) of Mayang Imphal Company Mayai Leikai.
In another incident, with the rounding of three persons including a couple, police commandos in Manipur Saturday claimed foiling of a plan to attack at the residence of the director of veterinary and animal husbandry by the PREPAK.
The trio namely Loukrakpam Nandakumar (33) son of Biramangol of Wangkhei Ayangpali and his wife Asharani and Thokchom Nobo (52) of Singjamei Chingmakha, Imphal were apprehended last night from different places after the woman who first nabbed from Kongpal Chanam Leikai, Imphal.
Two Chinese hand grenade and a 9 mm pistol with a magazine loaded with two live rounds were also recovered from the trio who police alleged third persons used by the militants in delivering bombs and ammunitions to the residences of government officials and as their messengers by the militants.
While alleging that the trio were indulged in threatening and delivering explosives to the residences of individuals like bureaucrat officers and other by the militants in meeting their extortion and contract work demands, police has once again strongly charge that underground outfits are using some weaker section of the society in carrying out their activities.
In the recent time also, mention may be made that Imphal east SP, Th Radheshyam has charged some KCP groups using widows and drug users in serving and collecting extortion money with the arrest of a widow about a month back.
Today, supervising office of the police commando units, DSP AK Jhalajit while producing three persons including a couple rounded up by the police commando personnel said that a group of PREPAK out also indulging in delivering explosives to the bureaucrat officers who fail to meet their demands.
One of their plots to attack with hand grenade to the residence of the director of the state veterinary and animal husbandry with the rounding of the three persons has been foiled, he said.
The trios were also produced before a media team at the commando complex before handing over to the police station for further investigation.
During interrogation, it was revealed that they are not the activists of any militants but working as messengers of PREPAK (GS group) and carrying out their activities like delivering of demand letters and depositing or delivering or lobbing hand grenades or firing to the houses of the government officials, the police officer said.
The officer further said during preliminary interrogation to them, they have come to know that Nobo and Nandakumar were entrusted by one SS Lt Achouba of PREPAK to lobe a grenade to the residence of director of the state veterinary and animal husbandry, Doren Singh located Porompat, Imphal in connection with demand of 10% of the estimated construction cost of a building of the department (Rs.2.5 crores).
The SS Lt.ordered them to lobe the bomb as the director denied to pay the money demanded by the group, he said based on the disclosures made by the trio during interrogation.
Asharani who was picked up by the police commandos from Kongpal Chanam Leikai last night at around 8.30 pm with a hand grenade also admitted that she along with her husband Nandakumar alias Bocha are planning for lobbing of hand grenade to the residence of the director of veterinary and animal husbandry at the instruction of Achouba.
Police came to know that the nabbed woman was used in carrying the hand grenades by concealing to her inner wear and slip from police checking on their way going to carry the attacks.
