Patsoi police in Imphal west have foiled a bid to attack the residence of a DDO of Manipur Legislative Assembly at Patsoi part-IV yesterday and related to the incident have arrested three activists of KCP (KK Nganba) group.
A frisking and checking team of police at Patsoi part-IV intercepted the three activists while allegedly attempting to launch a bomb attack at the house of a DDO of the Manipur Assembly Secretariat, Mayengbam Shyam around 3 pm.
The three activists came on two motorcycles, MN-03A/6739 (Pulser brand) and MN-1H-2182 (Yamaha brand).
A Chinese make hand grenade with a detonator was recovered from their possession, police said.
Moirangthem Kennedy (27) son of N Borkishore of Langathel, Oinam Naobi (24) son of Mani of Uyumpok Maning Leikai and Nongmaithem Deben (19) son of Manihar of Moreh ward no-VII were nabbed with a Chinese made hand grenade with a detonator.
They had come with an intention of launching an attack at the house of the DDO who had refused to meet the monetary demand served by them earlier.
On spot verification police came to know that they had demanded Rs 30 lakhs from the officer.
They were produced in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal west and have been remanded into police custody for further investigation.
Decrying the attempt to attack the house of the officer, locals of Patsoi area today staged at sit-in protest.
At the protest site, slogans like, "We strongly condemn bomb attack attempts, "stop threatening people for money," "We want peace, don't disturb peace," etc.
were displayed.
