UNC condemns attempt to declare it 'unlawful'

United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly condemned L.Ibomcha, MLA and Gaikhangam, President, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) who is also the Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur for their "immature and ill motivated intent" to declare UNC as an unlawful organization and also comparing the Naga body to a "unbridled horse" on March 16 in the Manipur Legislative Assembly when the matter is sub-judice and pending in the Supreme Court of India.
The UNC said this during its first presidential council assembly for the tenure 2014-18, hosted by Chamdil Naga Peoples' Organisation (CNPO) on March 26 Chandel District Headquarters.
UNC has also urged the Government of India to expedite "Indo-Naga Peace Process" while reiterating its support to Naga Collective Leaderships for bringing a lasting and honorable political settlement to the Naga issue.
The UNC meeting also seriously deliberated and reaffirmed to strongly oppose ceaseless land encroachment and development aggression including construction of mega dams like Mapithel Dam, Tipaimuk Multipurpose Dam, Chakpi Dam etc.
and Projects and hence, endorsed the UNC Executive to take up appropriate steps to this effect to protect and safeguard land and natural resources in Naga Areas.
The UNC then reaffirmed to uphold the Declaration of the 3rd Naga Peoples' Convention (NPC) held on 1st July 2010 at Tahamzam (Senapati) Hqrs.
in letter and spirit; Declaring Severance of political ties with the communal Government of Manipur and "null and void' to Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council, 3rd Amendment Act, 2008, and also to demand Alternative Arrangement outside the Government of Manipur pending Indo-Naga Political Settlement.
