Production prog on Marings' dance held

Lamenting that the identity of Maring tribe in the State is gradually inching towards extinction with the present generation sidelining the rich cultural heritage, Sadar Hills Kangpokpi ADC member ML Dominic Kansouwa said that a joint effort is needed to preserve and revive the dying rich cultural heritage of the Maring tribe.
Speaking as the chief guest during a one day production programme on Raal Rhou Chun (Maring War Dance) organized by Kulbi Shong Shong Tribal Cultural Centre at Shandang Shenba Maring village community hall, Senapati district, Sadar Hills Kangpokpi ADC member ML Dominic Kansouwa said that Maring community in Manipur has its own rich cultural heritage like other communities of the State.

Among the rich cultural heritage, Raal Rhou Chun (Maring war dance) is a popular martial arts dance performed to celebrate joy of victory after returning from a hunting expedition.
The dance depicts the techniques involved in martial arts.
With almost all indigenous tribes in the State embracing Christianity and being lackadaisical to indigenous cultures, various indigenous cultures, arts, rites and rituals signifying the tribals' ethnicity are gradually losing its place, Dominic Kansouwa added.
The function was also attended by North Maring Elders Forum joint secretary L Moshilpha, ML Medun Kansouwa, vice president NIPCO Manipur.
During the programme, KP Angphom, president, Kulbi Shong Shong Tribal Cultural Centre, ML Medun, KP Leidong, Medar, KL Medar, KL Angkhul, village chief of Shandang Shenba Maring village were appointed as new the masters of Maring folk song.
