CADA organises anti-drug drive at Palace Hotel

During a drive against drugs and alcohol organised by Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) in collaboration with the Excise Department at Palace Hotel, Palace Compound today, around 50 bottles of foreign liquor were seized.
According to a statement issued by L Sanjit, secretary of information and publicity, CADA, the drive was initiated after CADA received several complaints of liqour being sold at Palace Hotel.
Following reports of liquor being sold in the hotel, a CADA team alongwith Keisham Joykumar, Assistant Commissioner, Excise, Government of Manipur rushed to the site and conducted the drive.
During the drive inside Palace Hotel, the Excise team came across a room where a huge quantity of foreign liquor were arranged on a rack.
50 bottles of liquor along with the hotel staff and people including some girls were held and taken to Excise Head Office in Lamphel.
However one DI Tata (MN5A-0781) loaded with foreign liquor managed to escape from the scene.
Stating that Manipur is a dry State, the statement said that any individual found either selling or consuming liquor can be punished under the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991 .
Demanding strict against Palace Hotel and immediate steps to recover the DI Tata that had escaped, CADA said that there are several other people who are selling foreign liquor without a permit licence in places like Paona Bazar, Thangal Bazar.
Not only that, widespread sale of liquor can be found in areas of Sekmai, Phayeng, Andro and Kabui villages as well.
CADA urged the Excise Department to take up stringent actions against such unlawful business and make Manipur a healthy, safe and drug free State.
