Imphal, June 29 2009:
The Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) has urged the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University to rectify the recent advertisement for recruitment of various posts under Special Recruitment Drive for SC/ST.
MUTSU president, Helkhomang Touthang stated that the latest list of employees furnished to the MUTSU shows the representation of tribal community, which in all level of employment in MU is absolutely disappointing.
Touthang stated that there are only 3 ST out of the 130 contract employees appointed in between April 2004 and April 2008.And out of a total of 322 non-teaching staffs, the tribal represent only 38 seats.
He asserted that with regard to the teaching post the tribal have only three regular teachers in the university out of the total strength of 165 teching faculties.
Enumerating some points for prompt redressal by the VC, Helkhomang stated that the white paper on vacant position of non-teaching staffs as on 1-9-2007 (latest) issued by the university authority shows that there are 92 posts lying vacant at present in the university.
If the question of backlog or special recruitment drive arises, a total post due to be filled by the STs
is 51 .
He stated that contrary to the fact and figure of the vacant position, the present advertisement mentioned only 26 posts reserved in the ST category.
This act is considered a gross violation of the repeated instruction given by the HRD Ministry for proportionate representation of this section of the people in the elsewhere learning institutes of the country in general and the MU in particular.
Further, Helkhomang pointed out that the fact that there are as many as 83 posts of non-teaching staff lying vacant in MU and of course 9 less from the figure appeared in the white paper.
He states, if the VC office is really conscious about the proportional representations, this is the only opportunity left to them for his rectification.
As such, the MUTSU urges the VC to rectify the present advertisement, specifically based on the total number of present backlog vacancies.
It further cautioned that any deviation from the fact will be viewed seriously and will bear undesirable consequences.
