THE INTERNATIONAL Nurses Day was observed today at Shija Auditorium, Langol with a function jointly organised by the Nurses of Shija Hospitals and Students of Shija Academy of Nursing.
Marking the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the day was observed to remember all the valuables selfless contributions nurses make to the society with the theme Delivering Quality, Serving Communities: Nurses Leading Care Innovations, a statement issued by the Assistant General Manager of SHRI Suresh Thokchom stated.
The observance function was graced by Ng Binodini, retired Nursing Superintendent of RIMS, Y Ibetombi, retired assistant Nursing Superintendent, RIMS, and Dr Kh Palin, Chairman and Managing Director of Shija Hospitals as the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and President respectively, it stated.

Sharing the pride of being a nurse, Ng Binodini said that every ailing patient must be regarded and care as one's family members.
Y Ibetombi said that quality, not quantity, is the only solution to the need of modern nursing, it conveyed.
Eulogising Florence Nightingale as the symbol of love and modern nursing profession, Dr Palin said that professional nurses need to be strong, scientific, calculative and dedicated, the statement stated.
The International Nurses Day observance was followed by a cultural presentation by the staffs of Shija Hospitals and students of the Shija Academy of Nursing, it added.
Like in other places, the International Nurses' Day was observed at the CMC Hospital, Koirengei today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director of CMC Hospital, Rev Fr Francisco pointed out that in Manipur the number of nurses was very less.
For every single doctor there are 900 patients and for every nurse there are 1,150 patients.
Therefore it is necessary that the number of students studying nursing courses must be increased.
Rev Fr Francisco narrated that the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who had helped and served the countless injured and maimed soldiers in the Crimean War (1853-56) , is being celebrated as the International Nurses' Day all over the world.
And that day is today.
He said, as the day is being celebrated in different parts of the world, it is celebrated at the CMC Hospital also.
The theme of this year's observance of the day as conceived by the International Nursing Council is "Delivering Quality, Serving Communities:Nurses Leading Care Innovations".
The Director of CMC Hospital further said that the present day nurses need to perform their duties recalling those nurses who had sacrificed their lives for the service of mankind.
In order to fill up at least some part of the vacuum due to the shortage of nurses, a nursing institute will be opened at CMC Hospital very soon, he announced.
Addressing the function Dr K Kumar said, nurses are like our mothers.
Nurses should be able to possess sacrificial spirit remembering how far a mother is important to her children.
Nurses who attended the function took the "Nightingale pledge".
Several programmes including a lucky draw were also held in connection with the occasion.
The International Nurses Day was observed at the JN Hospital, Porompat under aegis of Nurses Association of Manipur.
Health Minister Ph Parijat, Director of JNIMS, Dr A Dwijamani Singh and Medical Superintendent of JN Hospital, Dr N Rajen were chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively at the observance.
