Imphal, September 04, 2009:
Agitation by the teachers of schools and employees of the offices run by the District Autonomous Councils are continuing even as they staged a sit-in protest at Keishampat Junction here today.
Teachers and employees working under the Autonomous District Councils across the five hill districts and Sadar Hill Autonomous Council are demanding among others release of their pending salaries for six months consecutively.

The teachers and employees had been continuing a pen down strike since August 28 under the aegis of the Six Hill Autonomous District Council Teachers' Association and its employees (AMDCTA) charging the state government with failure in fulfilling the genuine' demands of the teachers.
General secretary of AMDCTA, Wichong Panmei said, apart from not paying salaries to the employees for the last six months, the authorities are not clearing their long pending arrears of DA since 2001 to June 2005. The AMDCTA and its employees have also taken seriously the negligence of the state government describing it a step-motherly' treatment of the SPF government.
Despite repeated submission of memoranda for fulfilling their demands, the authorities failed to translate them into action, he said.
