The Section Officer of the Fisheries Department kidnapped by suspected cadres of KCP (MTF) on an alleged ' 20 lakh demand escaped from his kidnappers even as the whereabouts of the five officials of the PHED still remains unknown.
Sources said SO Veda Prakash escaped today around 9 am from a place in Lourembam area under Nambol police station of Bishnupur district and reached his official quarter at Lamphel in the afternoon.
As soon as he arrived, police picked him up to record his statement.
Mention may be made that the SO was kidnapped from his office in Lamphel area during the office hours on November 26 by two of KCP(MTF) cadres after calling out from at the office gate at gun point.
Police had said that they suspected the officer was kidnapped in connection with a ' 20 lakh demand.
On the other hand, despite the hectic efforts of the police and security forces, the whereabouts of the five officials of the PHED are yet to traced out.
Today police with the assistance of troops of 43 Assam Rifles conducted search operations at some villages in Saikul area in Senapati district.
Meanwhile, a police source said that the five officials were kidnapped by activists of KCP (MC) in connection with a monetary demand of ' three crore.
The five officials which include two assistant engineers (AEs) and a section officer (SO) were abducted by armed cadres of the group along with their vehicle on November 27 while travelling to Tadubi on NH-39 .
The kidnapped officers are H Ganeshwor (Asst Engineer) of Pishumthong, K Rameshwor (Asst Engineer) of Kairang, Nsomi (Surveyor of Work) of Yaiskul, K Manigopal (SO) of Uripok and A Ibomcha (Driver) of Samurou.
Families of the five officials had drawn the attention of the Chief Minister yesterday to find a way to secure a safe release of the officials.
