Police rescue Tej Narayan, one killed in encounter

In what could be termed as a breakthrough in police investigations, one Tej Narayan, who had been abducted by unknown miscreants for a ransom demand of Rs 5 Lakhs was rescued from the clutches of the abductors.
In the act of rescuing, an encounter broke out during which one of the abductors was killed and one injured while another managed to escape.
Talking to media persons in this connection at Imphal West Commando Complex today, Dr Ibomcha, DSP, Imphal West Police, said that Tej Narayan Yadav (35) s/o Ram Dayal of Bihar was abducted on in the morning of February 18 by two unidentified armed miscreants who came in a Maruti car from his rented house in Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak.
A complaint was registered at the Imphal Police Station in the evening of the same day.
During police investigation, it was known that Tej Narayan had been taken away from his tented house on the pretext of hiring him for construction of a house at Keibi area.
However, a day after the abduction, the miscreants informed family members to hand over Rs 5 lakhs if they want to see Tej Narayan alive again.
After negotiation, the ransom amount was agreed at Rs 1,30,000 .
In the meantime, acting on specific information, a combined team of Imphal West and East police conducted a search operation at Keibi area and learnt that the abducted person was being kept near a hillock in Chaning Khul.
A team of Imphal West Police Commandos led by DSP, Dr Ibomcha proceeded to the area at around 1 pm and as soon as the police commandos reached the area, the miscreants started firing towards the police.
The police commandos also retaliated and in the ensuing encounter one of the abductors was killed while another sustained bullet injuries.
The third abductor, however, managed to escape.
The police were later able to rescued Tej Narayan.
The injured abductor who was subsequently arrested by the police commandos has been identified as one Sagolshem Romen (30), s/o S Ibohanbi of Loushangkhong Makha Leikai.
The deceased has been identified as one Longjam Dhamen (32) s/o L Naba of Keibi Sallam, while the escaped abductor as one Moiranthem Ranajit, s/o M Tombi of Sagolmang Turel Wangma Wakhong Makha Leikai.
Police recovered one .32 Pistol and one Chinese hand grenade from the possession of the abductors.
