Imphal, February 21 2012:
Maintaining that they have received no information from the office of CEO about the photo comparison work and that they have certain reservations about the sincerity of the officials involved in the same work, the NPF has demanded re-poll in all polling stations of the 60 Assembly Constituencies rather than conducting re-poll in selected polling stations.
In the backdrop of the unfolding situation where re-poll is likely, the NPF held a meeting at Senapati headquarters today.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Z Lohe, political advisor to Nagaland Chief Minister, NPF vice-president Zaku, advisor to Nagaland Government T Mannen, NPF Manipur unit working president Vasung, advisor PA Thekho and spokesperson Somi Keishing.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Z Lohe alleged that the photo comparison exercise did not cover polling stations where Congress party has strong presence.
He also accused the State CEO and election officials of violating the Election Commission's guidelines.
Contradictory to the ECI's guidelines, the photo comparison work was carried out without giving any information to NPF or its candidates.
The election processes for the 60 ACs need re-examination.
PA Thekho further asserted that the photo comparison exercise was targeted against NPF.
Until and unless all the lapses and discrepancies are checked properly together with all political parties, no re-poll should be conducted.
The ECI too should work to correct the flaws.
Rather than going for re-poll in some selected polling stations because of mismatched photographs, re-poll should be held in all polling stations of all the 60 ACs.
This would go a long way in strengthening democracy in the region, the NPF advisor stated.
