The Imphal-Dima-pur section of the NH-39 has been totally cut off Saturday owing to the 24-hour Senapati district bandh imposed by the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) overlapped with indefinite economic blockade even as life was totally paralyzed in the district.
SDSA imposed the district-wide bandh including the NH-39 passing through the district in protest against the utter negligence of the NH-39, the lifeline of the people of the state and failure on the part of authority concerns in taking up appropriate action to improve the dilapidated of the road despite its important.
The bandh overlapping with the economic blockade imposing since July 16 by the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) on the national highways passing through the state has totally cut off the highway-39 as any kinds of vehicles ply on this route for the day.
The bandh commenced from last midnight and will conclude by midnight tonight (July 25) .
Over 11 inter-state buses stranded near the Khuzuma police check post of Nagaland bordering with Mao gate of Manipur owing to the bandh.
Another around 60 goods carrying trucks were also stranded there after 117 trucks have been escorted upto Imphal by the security forces, report received here from Mao gate said.
The Imphal bound buses and trucks originated from Dimapur and Guwahati and other have arrived at Khuzuma this morning.
Another report from Senapati district headquarter said that the streets there wore deserted look as all kinds of vehicles including two wheelers and light vehicles were off the road apart from closing all shops and business centres for the day.
Educational institutes, government offices and private undertaking sectors were also remained closed for the day, police as well as locals said when contacted by this correspondent.
No untoward incident reported during the strike hours, police said.
The Senapati District Students' Association imposed the bandh against government failure to initiate action despite repeated plea to repair the deteriorated highway by way of submitting memorandums.
They had also served an ultimatum to chief minister O Ibobi Singh in regards to the utter negligence of the NH39 through the Deputy Commissioner, Senapati District, Manipur on July 16 last, a statement of the students body said while announcing the bandh.
It has also threatened to impose economic blockade if no works taken its toll on the NH39 and causing suffering people of the district.
