Suspected militants shot and injured atleast two persons - a non-Manipuri and CPI worker- at separate places in the last 24-hours, official reports said today.
The severely injured non-Manipuri was identified as Gajendro (55) son of Sekhar of Bihar's Motihari district at present residing at Nagamapal, who is a mobile street vendor selling gas filled ballons.
Unidentified gunmen suspected to be militants attacked him at Keishampat in the heart of Imphal where there is a tightened security in connection with the Diwali festival.
A bullet hit his under chest and exited on the back.
He was admitted at RIMS Hospital.
Hospital sources stated his condition to be stable but serious.
He was the 10th non-Manipuri targeted by militants in the current year.
At least eight non-Manipuris had been killed in the current month and severely injured another
one.
A CPI worker was also shot at injuring his leg by suspected KCP(MTF) activists last night around 10 pm at Kumbi village in Bishnupur district.
Police suspected the shooting is related with a monetary demand.
Khangenbam Manikapur (45) son of Kh Achouba is the general secretary of the CPI local council.
He has been admitted at RIMs Hospital.
