Court rejects bail

Special Court ND&PS Manipur, rejected the bail application of retired DSP of Manipur Police, Md Abdul Latif, his wife Nasim Banu and Manzil Ahmed Lasker, who were arrested in connection with smuggling a large consignment of synthetic drugs, World is Yours (WY) tablets worth around Rs 40 lakh in the local market, and remanded them to judicial custody till May 8.The accused retired DSP of Manipur Police Md Abdul Latif (63) s/o (L) Md Shahabuddin and his wife Nasim Banu of Dewlaland Kabow Leikai and Manzil Ahmed Lasker (30) s/o Jamir Uddin Lasker of Uttar Lalpani, Cachar, Assam, were produced before the Court along with a prayer for judicial custody remand till May 8.On the other hand, bail application prayers filed by the accused individuals through their respective counsels were also taken up for hearing.
The IO of the case, through Special PP, submitted that during the course of investigation, it was allegedly revealed that Hatim Alim, the brother in law of Md Abdul Latif, usually finances drugs consignment ranging from Rs 20 to 40 lakh.
One Md Wahabs used to procured the drug consignment from his (Wahabs) maternal uncle and aunty, who are staying at Moreh, from Tamu.
It was also revealed that the drugs consignment are kept at different places of the State, namely at Mayang Imphal, Lilong, Keirao and Dewlaland area etc.
The Court heard the submission ofboth the counsels and satisfied with the remand prayer, remanded the accused individuals to judicial custody and rejected the bail application prayer.
It may be mentioned that retired DSP Md Abdul Latif was arrested on April 13, at around 8 pm, from his residence based on the disclosure of one Manzil Ahmed Lasker who was arrested by a team of 23 Assam Rifles personnel at Kaimai check post on April 10, for illegal transportation of 1 lakh WY tablets (weighing around 11.34 kilograms) in his Force Cruiser vehicle.
