Imphal, April 24 2018:
The Congress party has brought out another case of alleged fund misappropriation, this time claiming that the fund for the renovation/repairing works of 'Manipur Public Services Commission (MPSC) office building, amounting to around Rs 3 crore, was taken and misused by a contractor although the work was done by another contractor.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhawan today, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee Spokesperson H Goswami claimed that MDS provided around Rs 3 crore worth of work order to IFD Designing Construction and Manufacture, a company located at Singjamei Bazaar on May 25, 2016, for the repairing/renovation of 12-13 rooms of MPSC office building.
However, under the new State Government, PWD Building Division II Executive Engineer again gave the work order for the repairing and renovation works to one SN Paiv'ei on November 23 last year at an estimated cost of Rs 1,25,90,310.There are documents showing that Paivei has withdrawn a large portion of the funds for the work during the end of the financial year, even though the work order was originally given to the company, he claimed.
Questioning the current stage of the work and asking how a huge sum of around Rs 3 crore was withdrawn, Goswami demanded the Government/authority concerned to investigate into the issue at the earliest.
On the other hand, Goswami claimed that the Social Welfare Department has failed to release rice and sugar to the Anganwadi Centres of the State for the third and fourth quarter of the year 2017-18, even though rice and sugar for the 1st and 2nd quarters were given.
He added that the Congress party would file a complaint to the Central Government if the authority concerned fails to look into the matter at the earliest.
Speaking about the CDA issue, the Congress spokesperson said that the State Government assured swift enquiry and proper punishment of those involved long time back but no tangible result can be seen till date, except for the arrest of a contractor.
The claims that PWD had complained to the police first, is false and baseless, as per the records received by the Congress party, he claimed.
Speaking about BJP's claim that the guns/arms which went missing were used for election purposes, Goswami remarked that the action is similar to passing a sentence first and then launching a trial later.
