Amidst much fanfare, Leingang-ching village of Ukhrul district has kicked started the two-day Naga seed sowing festival Lui-Ngai-Ni (Luira Phanit) at its village hall today.
MPCC General Secretary Victor Keishing and Divisional Forest Officer of Eastern Forest Division (DFO Ukhrul), MSS Vashum graced as chief guest and guest of honour respectively in the opening function which was also attended by the volunteers of All Manipur Anti-Drugs Association (AMADA).
The chief guest hoisted the festival flag to mark the opening of the two-day event.
He also inaugurated a village community cum village authority office building on the occasion.
Speaking in the function, AMADA General Secretary Phoni Meetei said, �Let the festival bring unity, peace and prosperity in the State in general and village in particular�.
Saying that the festival is an age-old celebration, he exhorted the gathering to sow crops which are not prohibited by law.
Folk dances, folk songs and other entertainment items marked the first day�s celebration which was taken part by a large number of villagers.
Sports competitions and other entertainment items would be the main attractions of the second day tomorrow.
AMADA will also organise an awareness programme on prevention of poppy plantation at the festival venue tomorrow.
