Underscoring the need for development of Lamphelpat as a scenic spot, People�s Awareness for National Advancement hosted a day-long public hearing at its Langol Laimanai office complex today.
Representatives of local clubs, other social organisations and Meira Paibis of the surrounding Lamphelpat area as well as farmers and environmentalists participated at the �People�s hearing on conservation and protection of Lamphelpat�.
After a serious deliberation on the issue, the public hearing adopted six different resolutions with an eye on developing Lamphelpat to its pristine beauty of scenic spot worth its historical legacy.In the first resolution, the public heating, while appreciating the move initiated by the Government of Manipur to develop Lamphelpat as a body water, however, felt that the proposed area of 300 acres to be covered is limited and should be expanded to cover more areas.
Accordingly, the public hearing sought the Government for producing a comprehensive vision document in this regard.
The second resolution pertains to inclusion of the local population in the efforts for development of Lamphelpat on a public-private partnership basis.
In the third resolution, the public hearing underlines the need for development of Lamphelpat as an eco-tourism spot and nature conservation in the water shed areas as well as along Langol hill range.
In the fourth resolution, the public hearing proposed for setting up a separate garden for propagation of Kombirei and a scientific laboratory for this particular flower species.
The fifth resolution called on the Government for coming up a policy to ensure sustainable living for those who depend on Lamphelpat for fishing and other allied activities.
In the sixth and the last resolution, the public hearing proposed to submit a memorandum to the Government and organise mass awareness campaign on the need for conservation of Lamphelpat.
The public hearing was conducted with the participation of social worker Leihaothabam Saratchandra as chief guest and president of People�s Awareness for National Advancement Chongtham Jogmani Meitei as functional president.
Director of CDS, Manipur University RK Ranjan Singh and Grade Lecturer of Oriental College, Imphal Dr TB Singh were also among the resource persons who attended and spoke at the public hearing.
