With two more children honoured with the Bravery Award in the 2010 Republic Day in New Delhi, the total number of children from Manipur being honoured with the Bravery Award in the last five decades has been tallied at 62. Revealing this statistic today at a function in Imphal, officials of State Council for Child Welfare said that since the year 1962 altogether 62 children from Manipur has been honoured with the National Bravery Award.
A programme was organised by the State Council for Child Welfare to felicitate Maibam Prity Devi and Thoi Thoi Khumanthem who won National Bravery Awards for 2009 held in Imphal Sunday.
Maibam Prity Devi and Thoi Thoi Khumanthem, both from Manipur were among the 21 children honoured with National Bravery Awards for 2009.Priti received the prestigious Geeta Chopra Award.
General Secretary of the Manipur State Council for Child Welfare Y Sarat Singh however lamented the increasing cases of child trafficking in the state.
Sarat Singh cautions the parents to be beware of those agents who often lure the parents on the pretext of giving their children good education outside the state.
