Lui-Ngai-Ni celebration which would go on for two days kicked off at Leingangching village in Ukhrul district today as Luira Phanit.
The opening ceremony of the celebration was graced by general secretary of Manipur Pradesh Committee, Victor Keishing as chief guest, DFO, Eatern Division, Ukhrul Soreiphy Varum as guest of honour.
The function was presided over by assistant teacher KS Phaning.
Before the opening ceremony of the festival was held, Victor Keishing also inaugurated a community hall cum village authority office of the village constructed under the funding of GFMC, Eastern Forest Division.
Unfurling the festival flag, the MPCC general secretary declared the festival open.
Speaking as special invitee of the function, general secretary of AMADA Ph Phony stressed the need for building up work culture among the villagers with the preservation of culture and tradition.
He also appealed the gathering to stop cultivation of plants like tobacco and poppy use in the manufacture of intoxicant items and instead grow other food crops.
The opening function of the festival was marked by the showcase of cultural dance, songs.
Sport events will be held tomorrow on the concluding day.
