The Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM) today observed the 8th Death Anniversary of Meira Paibi leader Ima Kombi at the Ima Khunthokhanbi Shanglen inside the DM College Campus, Imphal.
Social worker Thounaojam Iboyaima, who attended the function as Chief Guest, said that people of the state should unite leaving aside all thoughts of discrimination and communal ill feelings in order to save Manipur and develop it into a united and peaceful society.
While lamenting over the fact that Manipur is in its worst situation at present, he stressed the role of Meira Paibis in uniting the different communities residing in the state with a sense of oneness and universal brotherhood.
Maintaining that the Manipuris are on the brink of extinction if the different communities residing in the state live with enmity and hatred in their mind, Iboyaima urged the people of different communities to unite and defeat the various external factors which are giving threats to the sustainability of the Manipuris.
President of PLMPAM, Longjam Ongbi Memchoubi, who presided over the function, also appealed to the people and the different women organisations in the state to unite and fulfill the dream of Ima Kombi for a united Manipuri society.
President of Universal Mothers Organisation Sorojini said that the role of women in uniting and safeguarding the society is very big.
However, it is unfortunate that some women who claimed themselves to be leaders of Meira Paibi organisations engaged in distributing cash to woo voters in the just concluded 10th Assembly Election.
It seemed like they are conceding to the monopoly of the politicians who violate human rights of the people living in the state, she said.
Secretary of PLMPAM RK Landhoni recalled the activities and efforts of late Meira Paibi leader Ima Kombi who tried all her life to unite the Meira Paibi organisations for a better Manipur.
She also urged the people of the state to unite and bring peace and development in the state.
Ima Kombi had approached the British High Commission on April 21, 1994 to draw attention of the United Nations to bring the lost soveriegnty of Manipur and highlighted the woeful condition of the state and the pitiable life of its people, Landhoni added.
Paying floral tributes to the photo of Ima Kombi marked the occasion.
