Senapati, January 27:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has urged the Government of India and the NSCN-IM to ensure that avenues are kept open for a peaceful and lasting solution to the Indo-Naga problem.
In a statement issued to Newmai News Network in Senapati by its information and publicity secretary, the United Naga Council stated that Nagas want peace and to that end Government of India must exhibit genuine political will to resolve the issue.
"We also request the collective leadership of the NSCN-IM for the extension of the cease-fire beyond January-31," asserted UNC.
"However,we are aware that 8 years of talks without any substantial agreement is fast becoming an indefensible situation,"rued the UNC.
It further said that the Government of India represented by Union Minister Oscar Fernandes as leader of the Group of Ministers in the negotiation should keep this position in mind when the talks take place in Bangkok from tomorrow.
