The North Eastern Council (NEC) will soon initiate a Rs 41.54 crore project for the conservatiion and development of the nature's richest gift Loktak lake in Manipur, a NEC press release said here today.
The Centre's ex-penditure finance committee in its meeting on January 25 under the charimanship of the secretary of the Ministry for Devemopment of North Eastern Region (Doner), cleared the NEC assisted integrated project for conservation and development of Loktak lake, the release said.
"The estimated expenditure for the project is Rs 41.54 crore and the required fund will be provided by the NEC commencing from the current financial year", the release said.
The meeting was attended among others by the NEC secy HV Lalringa and senior officers of the ministries of Finance, Environment and Forest besides, the Planning Commission.
