The aggrieved locals of Khumbong and its surrounding area have announced to launch intense agitation in the event of the failure of the Government authority to upgrade the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Khumbong under National Rural Health Mission Programme within February month.
A decision to this effect was arrived at during a joint public meeting convened by Imphal West Students' Club, Khumbong on January 2 at the hall of PHC.
The meeting attended by representatives of all the clubs, Meira Paibi bodies and other volunteers took serious note of lack of adequate infrastructure in the health centre which is the only health care centre available to the people of the area.
The meeting strongly felt that the existing infrastructure is not adequate to meet the demand of the ever increasing population.
The health centre was set up some 20 years back and nothing has been done to develop it, the meeting decried while taking a unanimous decision to take recourse to various intense form of agitation if the Primary Health Centre is not upgraded to the status of a Community Health Centre under the National Rural Health Mission Programme within February next.
