CID Crime Branch has arrested two persons who are allegedly involved in misuse of over Rs 46 lakhs from the Relief and Disaster Management Department which was meant for payment of compensation to villagers in Moirang sub-division whose houses were destroyed and crops damaged in a hail storm.
The two arrested accused persons have been identified as Lisam Samungou (50) s/o late Thambou of Khongman Zone-III and Thuamzhnung Tunglut (38) s/o late T Dangkhothang of Bungmol village, Churachandpur.
Samungou is a Lower Division Clerk (LDC) in the office of Relief and Disaster Management located at New Secretariat while Tunglut, who was earlier working as the accountant cum passing officer in SBI New Secretariat, is now posted in SBI Churachandpur branch.
Both of them have been taken into police custody.
In connection with misuse of such a huge amount of relief fund, Opposition MLAs of MPP have demanded arrest and punishment of the involved persons in the Assembly session yesterday.
Leader of the House, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh had also assured that the guilty would not be spared.
Arrest of the two accused persons by the CID Crime Branch was effected after detailed discussion on the matter during a joint meeting presided over by the Chief Minister himself in his bungalow here in the morning today.
Chief Secretary, DGP and other related officials attended the meeting.
The signature of Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur had been forged for the withdrawal of the amount.
Accordingly, the Deputy Commissioner lodged a complaint with the Bishnupur police who in turned transferred the case to SP CID Crime Branch.
Earlier, four persons have been arrested in connection with the case.
Presently, all four of them are on bail.
