In connection with International Fortnight Protesting Violence Against Women, which is being observed from November 25 to December 13, a motorcycle rally cum awareness campaign was taken out on the roads of Imphal today.
Organised under the aegis of Women Action for Development, the motorcycle rally cum awareness campaign was flagged off by Telegraph correspondent Khelen Thokchom from BOAT, Palace Compound at around 10 am.
From Palace Compound, the rallyists passed through Nongmeibung, Porompat, Khurai Lamlong, Popular School, Heikrumakhong, Salanthong, Lamlong bridge, Khunou, Don Bosco (Sangakpham), Chingmeirong, North AOC, Hatta, New Checkon and ended at Palace compound again at around 1 pm.
In all 30 bikers including volunteers, staff and victims of armed conflict participated in the rally.
During the rally, the participants carried placards and festoons inscribed with slogans like 'Stop violence against women', 'Respect the rights of women', etc.
Along the way, the rallyists also stopped at many points to spread awareness on the rights and problems of women in the society.
