Imphal, November 11 2009:
Human blood is one of the most precious gifts a human being can present to another.
That is why blood donors are rightly called as the 'saviours of life'.
If someone wishes to do something for fellow beings, voluntary blood donation is an exemplary way.
This is the message students, teachers and staff of Manipur Institute of Management Studies (MIMS) of Manipur University sought to send across as they organised a blood donation camp at its premises in collaboration with RIMS Blood Bank today.
A lecture programme on blood donation was also organised in order to encourage the blood donors for future camps.
Prominent speakers are Dr A Meina and Dr Y Bijoy of RIMS Blood Bank, Dr Tomcha Khuman and Pradeep Saikia of Indian Red Cross Society and Dr N Shyamjai, Director of State Blood Transfusion Council.
"As we all know, the State blood banks are deficient of blood, MIMS organises this camp to encourage its students and other donors to contribute its bit in this regard towards the society and also to imbibe the sense of sacrifice in the mind of youngsters for the better course of the society," said Dr Chingkham Ibohal Meitei, Head in-charge of MIMS.
Around 45 voluntary blood donors donated blood in the camp sponsored by State Blood Transfusion Council and RIMS Blood Bank.
26-year-old MIMS student, Yumnam Latasundari, who have donated blood for the first time, said, "I am gratified with the feeling that my blood would save a life".
Apart from studies, every student must contribute something to the society in their own ways, the first semester student added.
