Imphal, November 11 2009:
NK Sanajaoba memorial observance was organised at Manipur Press Club today.
Paying floral tributes to the photograph of NK Sanajaoba, and remembering him as a brave and fearless journalist marked the observance orgainsed by NK Sanajaoba Memorial Trust.
Veteran journalist Naorem Birendrakumar and NK Sanajaoba Memorial Trust vice-chairman Sh Jamuna graced the function as chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking in the function, Naorem Birendrakumar remembered NK Sanajaoba as a brave and courageous journalist.
Maintaining that the State now needs journalists like Sanajaoba, Birendrakumar said that the contemporary journalists need to write courageously like him as the present society has full of misconduct in every field.
In her presidential address, Ch Jamuna said that the present day journalists are lagging behind in following the footprints of NK Sanajaoba.
She added that the main reason why the journalists are not able to work freely is Government's interference to the freedom of press.
However, contemporary journalists must not forget their responsibilities towards society, she added.
Senior journalist AK Sanaton spoke on the topic, 'Media, yesterday, today and tomorrow' in today's function.
He said that journalists are working under intense threat in the State today.
Although State journalists took the damning photographs of Khwairamband bazar fake encounter incident of July 23, they took the help of Tehelka in exposing it.
Saying that journalism in the State is a risky profession with very less salary, Sanaton asserted that it has become a big question how sincere journalists can discharge their duties under such circumstances.
However, journalism everywhere demands courage and unbiased attitude, he added.
