Tamenglong, November 11 2009:
A special meeting of the district level organising committee of the State level Orange Festival held here today has rescheduled the date for the forthcoming 9th State level Orange Festival to December 10, reports our correspondent.
The prizes for the Orange Queen winners and orange growers have also been hiked, according to a press handout of the Publicity Committee.
The meeting chaired by DC Sumant Singh rescheduled the date as the day coincides with Nupi Lan Day.
The prizes for the most coveted Orange Queen, first runner up and second runner up have been fixed at Rs 75,000, Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
The first, second and third prizes in orange production will carry Rs 35,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.
Tamenglong is famous for its orange production and though regarded as the most backward district, this festival has been drawing the crowd.
The venue of the festival will be at Tamenglong mini stadium and Union Home Secretary GK Pillai is likely to take part in the one-day festival as chief guest.
