A twenty six year old youth, one the several victims of IEDs planted across the interior district when the Army launched an offensive to clear the region of valley based insurgents yesterday return with an artificial leg, two and a half years after his leg was amputated.
Welcoming their ward after the Army gifted him an artificial leg at its Pune ALC, family and village elders along with student organizations hold a simple welcoming ceremony today at Tuibuang and honour the state forces for their assistance.
Injured after stepping on an IED near their village in Thanlon sub-division's Thenjol on 24 January 2006, Lhunkhothang Haokip underwent three major surgeries and a couple of amputation on his right leg, before he receive the artificial limb.
Initially the victim's leg was amputated below the knee but due to infection it was again amputate on the thigh.
Speaking on the occasion, Lhukhothang personally thank the village chief of Thenjol, student leaders who guided him and the Government of India and the Army in particular for restoring his mobility despite the tragic incident that has besieged his youth.
