Leishokching Baptist Church and Leishokching village celebrated golden jubilee under the theme 'God's faithfulness' with Reverend Dr W Konghar general secretary of Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) as the main speaker at Leishokching village, Chandel district today, reports our correspondent.
The celebration was marked by releasing of a jubilee souvenir by K Rajen, executive secretary of Tarao Baptist Association, presentation of gifts to village and Church pioneers, women and youth leaders.
A two minute silence was also observed to pay respect to the departed souls of the village.
The unfurling of the jubilee flag was performed by former village chief M Rumshe and was followed by unveiling of jubilee monolith by Reverend Dr W Konghar.
Speaking at the occasion, M Rumshe said that the village was established by (L) M Koba in 1965 after performing rites and rituals in accordance with the custom and tradition of Tarao tribe.
"Though 50 years have passed since its establishment, Leishokching village has much to achieve in terms of development.
Till date, there is no community hall, no play ground and villagers are facing a problem of potable water supply," M Rumshe said.
While drawing the attention of the State Government, the former chief said that being the smallest tribe in the State, Tarao people have not been given all the required benefits from the Government's developmental programs.
He further urged the State Government to take up necessary measures for the welfare of the village.
