Armed force rally held in Senapati

Imphal, March 10 2011: An armed forces veterans rally was conducted by 59 Mountain Brigade under the aegis of the Red Shield Division at Senapati town.

Almost 400 ex-servicemen and their families came from all corners of the district participated in the event.

The presence of 'Veer Naris', Army widows whose husbands had laid down their lives in the service of the nation and by the presence of veterans from World War II has made the event more meaningful, a statement of the PRO, PIB(DW), Imphal said.

These battle-hardened soldiers were felicitated by the Commander of the 59 Mountain Brigade for dedicating their life to the service of the country.

All 'Veer Naris', family members of soldiers martyred in battle, soldiers injured in battle and aged veterans were felicitated and presented with tokens of appreciation.

Facilities like medical check-up, canteen services, fast-track documentation and information updates were provided to the participants.

The Zilla Sainik Board was also presented with a personal computer in order to automate its day-to-day functioning.

As the Zilla Sainik Boards were functioning without any financial assistance from the State, it was decided to pay the board an honorarium of Rs 1000 for their smooth functioning.

The proceedings were presided over by Brigadier AK Narula, Commander 59 Mountain Brigade.

Noteworthy amongst the attendees were Nidhi Kesarwani, Senapati DC, James Manao, Additional SP Senapati, Lt Col (Retd) Sarath Singh, Secretary of Rajya Sainik Board, Sub Lunhao of Assam Regiment Records and other civilian and military officials.

This rally marks a sincere endeavour by the Army to address the difficulties and hardships faced by their veterans, the statement said adding that during the course of a healthy interaction, various difficulties came to fore and were duly addressed by the military and civilian officials alike.

The environment of synergy and bonhomie that prevailed was proof of the smooth blending between military and civilian functionaries within the district.

The rally concluded with an informal interaction where the veterans brushed shoulders with high-ranking military and civilian officials.

It was also stated that more such rallies would be organised in the near future to further the cause of the veterans and to provide them with a suitable platform to air their opinions and views.
