Imphal, March 10 2011:
In protest against the alleged unjustified trial pro cess of the NIA, Moirangthem Landhoni started fasting since March 8 inside Guwahati Central Jail.
Meanwhile, the jail authority has denied permission to family members of M Landhoni to visit the detainee.
NIA brought Landhoni Devi (44) to Guwahati from Manipur and restarted a trial here, allegedly without any valid reason.
Contending that it was unjustified for the NIA to restart her trial after she was freed on bail by the Court, Landhoni started fasting inside the jail since March 8 .
Bail application filed by Landhoni's counsel was rejected by the NIA Court on March 7 subsequent upon which the detainee resolved to launch the democratic protest inside the jail.
Landhoni decried the silence of the State Government when she was re-arrested by NIA after she was granted bail for six months by the Court.
For any unwanted consequence resulting from the fasting, the Central Government, the State Government and the NIA should be held responsible, Landhoni asserted.
Three days into the fasting agitation, Landhoni has become very weak.
With Landhoni determined not to drink even a single drop of water, jail authorities are facing difficulties in their efforts to keep the detainee physically fit.
In view of the deteriorating health condition of Landhoni, the jail authority has banned her family members from visiting the jail.
Landhoni was arrested on August 18 last year when she was meeting her husband.
