The mass Japanese Encephalitis Vaccination Programme performed in five districts of the state concluded today with vaccination of 3,69,933 children against the targeted figure of 5,72,194 .
The mass vaccination programme across five districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Chandel was launched on October 25 and concluded today.
It targeted vaccination of anti-Japanese Encephalitis to children between the age group of one to 15 years.
Source at the state family welfare department said that in the first phase of the programme, a total of the 3,69,933 children were vaccinated.
The number is against 5,72,194 children targeted by the authority.
As per the record in the department total of children vaccinated in Imphal west was 11,2,603, Imphal east 84,620, 84,718 in Thoubal, 41,283 in Chandel and 46,749 in Bishnupur district.
For Imphal west district 110 teams comprising five members conducted the vaccination programme across the district, said Dr Bimola Devi, district medical officer of the district talking to Hueiyen Lanpao.
Two vaccinators of each team were assisted by one each Anganwadi worker, ASHA and school teacher.
They were assisted by local club volunteers and women bodies.
Thirty-five doctors supervised all the teams, she added.
Clarifying on news reports on hospitalisation of children after administering the vaccine, she said that no such reports came up in her district.
There is no need for fear in administering the vaccine to the children.
The vaccine is to be given only once in a child's life for protection from the dreaded disease, she added.
Mention may be made that state family welfare department conducted the programme in collaboration with the state National Rural Health Mission to the five districts of the state included among 109 districts listed in the country for conducting a mass vaccination programme by the Union ministry of health and family welfare programme.
